Another Birthday Party

I am so lucky! I got to have three birthdays. Here I am at Grandma Miller's, modeling the pretty new dress that Uncle Travis and Aunt Jill gave me:
Here I am, opening presents with Daddy's help: Here I am eating my dairy-free cake. I loved the cherries!
In this picture, I'm thinking: Is this cake really all mine??? Are you sure I'm really allowed to do this? I love birthdays!!!

Home Again

We ate at several New York diners during our trip. This diner was in Rochester, right next to the airport. I got to eat Mickey Mouse pancakes and sausage! And one of the waitresses thought I was so cute that she gave me a dollar to start a savings account. (I'm so cute that everyone loves me!)
Here I am at the Rochester Airport, waiting for our flight home:
We had a great trip! I love New York!!!

Today

This morning Mommy, Daddy, and Grandpa Baker went to the temple, and I stayed at home with Grandma Baker:
Later in the day, we visited the marina and played in the Erie Canal:
This evening Mommy, Daddy, Grandpa Baker, and I visited the Mendon area. This area played an important role in the Restoration. In the background of this picture, you can see the land where Brigham Young built one of his homes. Several important people in Church history (like Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, and their wives) were also baptized here, and an amazing vision was had in this area on the night that Joseph Smith received the gold plates:
This is the original barn owned by Phineas Young (Brigham's brother). Several Church meetings were held here:
In this picture, you can see the original home of John and Abigail Young, Brigham and Phineas's parents:
This is the Tomlinson Inn. (Part of it is original.) The young missionary Samuel Smith (Joseph's brother) came to the Inn very discouraged because he was having little success. It was here that he met Phineas Young. Phineas purchased a Book of Mormon, which he shared with members of his family and the Kimballs. The Tomlinsons (who owned the Inn) were also baptized. The Mendon Branch included many stalwart members of the Church:

This is the Tomlinson Cemetery, where Heber C. Kimball's father and Brigham Young's first wife Miriam were buried:
To learn more about the Mendon area, read the October 2007 Ensign article titled "Living in a Chapter of History" by Marjorie Rice.

Harmony and Colesville

Yesterday we took a day trip to the Harmony and Colesville areas. We saw all sorts of really neat Church history sites. But first, we stopped in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Daddy wanted to see the setting for one of his favorite TV shows, "The Office." This building appears in the show's opening credits: This is the site of Joseph and Emma Smith's home in Harmony, Pennsylvania. Nearby is the Aaronic Priesthood Restoration Monument. Most of the Book of Mormon was translated here in Harmony:

This picture was taken on the Isaac and Elizabeth Hale farm. Right now, it's just a great big field, but we learned from the missionaries that the Church may develop this site in the near future. Archaeologists recently excavated the area, and we took a lot of really neat pictures of the excavation site:This picture was taken at the McKune Cemetery, near the Aaronic Priesthood Restoration Monument. This is the grave of Joseph and Emma's first son, Alvin. Emma's parents are also buried nearby:
Here I am with Daddy and Grandpa Baker, wading the Susquehanna River. This is the section of the river that adjoins Joseph and Emma's thirteen acres in Harmony. It was probably very near here that the Aaronic Priesthood was restored to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery by John the Baptist:
This is a picture of the original Joseph Knight home in Colesville. (The part of the house with the chimney is original; the other two sections are add-ons.) The well pictured here was dug by Joseph Smith, Jr., and his father (although the part above ground is not original). The first branch of the Church was organized here in Colesville, and many baptisms were performed on this property in the pond:This is the original Josiah Stowell home. Josiah Stowell was an employer of Joseph Smith. It was here in this home that Emma and Joseph spent their honeymoon. The Nauvoo Mansion House was also modeled after this home:Joseph and Emma were married in South Bainbridge, New York, in the home of Justice of the Peace Zechariah Tarbell. The house is no longer standing, but here is a marker that the state put up. (Notice that they misspelled Emma's name. Oops.)
