Nursemaid's Elbow

So last week during family night we played Ring Around the Rosie for our activity.

When we got to "We all fall down!" Lizzie started crying and favoring her left arm. She couldn't sleep, so we ended up making a late-night ER trip. We found out that it was nursemaid's elbow.

Here's a little info about nursemaid's elbow (from PubMed Health):

Nursemaid's elbow is a dislocation of a bone in the elbow called the radius. Dislocation means the bone slips out of its normal position at the elbow joint. The injury is also called radial head dislocation.

Nursemaid's elbow is a common condition in young children. It generally affects children under age 5. The injury occurs when a child is pulled up too hard by the hand or wrist.

The doctor will fix the dislocation by gently flexing the elbow and rotating the forearm so that the palm is facing upward.

It was a quick fix for the pediatrician, but poor Lizzie was in pain for a few hours before we decided to take her in. :o(
